How is this different from official account export?

This extension focuses on selected classic Claude projects, with readable Markdown, raw JSON, instructions and accessible original knowledge files. Official Claude export is an account-data workflow delivered by email. For a full account request, use Claude’s official export instructions.

Do I need an API key?

No. The extension reads projects through your existing signed-in claude.ai browser session. It does not ask for an API key or your account password.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

The extension processes exports locally in your browser and saves ZIP files to your machine. It reads data from claude.ai; it does not upload chats to our servers and has no telemetry. Local checkpoints contain project and filename metadata, not transcript or knowledge-file bodies. This marketing site has no analytics or active signup form.

What is included, and what is not?

Classic Claude project conversations as Markdown and raw JSON, instructions, indexes, and original knowledge files where Claude exposes them. Missing originals are reported as failures rather than replaced with previews. Automatic project Memory, Beta/Cowork projects and conversation attachment bytes are not included in the MVP; transcript attachment references remain.

Can I put the export in Obsidian?

Yes. Enable Obsidian friendly before exporting, then extract into your vault root. Notes include YAML frontmatter and indexes use wikilinks. Project and item identity suffixes keep same-name content separate. Extract all ZIP parts into the same destination using the merge guide.

Can I resume an interrupted export?

Yes. Keep downloaded ZIPs and enable Resume with the original Obsidian setting. Checkpoints are kept locally for up to 14 days and advance after Chrome confirms a download. Only confirmed items are skipped. Keep the tab open and allow downloads. Old checkpoint formats may require a fresh export.

How are large exports handled?

Archives split around 500 MiB. Each selected project has its own ZIP or ZIP parts, not a single combined archive for all projects. Keep every part, including an unnumbered first ZIP after a resumed run. Follow the final archive manifest and merge guide; use the provided ditto command on macOS. An individual binary above 1 GiB is an explicit failure.

Does it export ChatGPT Projects?

Not yet. ChatGPT Projects is Coming soon. The current provider supports classic Claude Projects; no ChatGPT access or API key is requested today. There is no announced release date.

Is it free?

Current MVP export features are available free. Pro checkout is coming; planned prices are $7.99/month, $49/year or $79 lifetime. There is no active payment flow. Planned pricing does not lock the current MVP export features, and future paid features are not promised here.

What is the relationship to AI Chat Archive?

Claude Project Exporter is a separate product focused on whole projects. For single-chat export, see AI Chat Archive. The two products remain independent.

Is this an official Anthropic or OpenAI product?

No. Claude Project Exporter is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic, PBC or OpenAI. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC. ChatGPT is a trademark of OpenAI.

Why does Add to Chrome not open the store yet?

The Chrome Web Store destination is a placeholder in this launch preview. No store listing has been linked here, and clicking the button does not install anything. The ChatGPT waitlist is also a disabled placeholder and does not collect your email.
